The Detroit-Windsor Tunnel is a cross-border tunnel linking the United States and Canada. Across the Detroit River connecting the northern tip of Detroit and the southern tip of Windsor. It is 1,573 meters long and is owned jointly by city of Detroit and city of Windsor. It was built in 1930. About 12,000 cars pass through the tunnel every day. It is the only car underwater tunnel that crosses the international border! The tunnel is considered one of the greatest engineering miracles in the world.
St Clair Lake is 1,114 kilometers with an average depth of 3.7 meters. It borders eastern Ontario and western Michigan. Its shape is almost circular, with a length of 42 kilometers and a maximum width of 39 kilometers. It is connected to Lake Huron in the north of St. Clair and passes through the Detroit River into Lake Erie in the south. Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan are located on the southwestern tip of the lake, making it a popular spot for recreational fishing and boating.
The town of Amherstburg is regarded as one of the prettiest and oldest communities in southwestern Ontario. It is located on the banks of Lake Erie and the Detroit River, a short 25-minute drive from the Windsor/Detroit border. It was rated Canada's safest community for three consecutive years in 2010-2012. Amherstburg has a rich history with three national historic sites, Fort Malden, the North American Black History Museum and Belle Vue House. Its population is 21,556.
Ambassador Bridge is a multinational bridge connecting Detroit and Windsor. The Ambassador Bridge was built in 1927 and completed and opened in 1928. It is a magnificent suspension bridge spanning the Detroit River, 2286 meters long, 46 meters from the river, with a maximum span of 564 meters. The Ambassador Bridge is the busiest international border bridge in North America. More than 25% of merchandise trade between the United States and Canada passes through the bridge. Every day, there are numerous Canadian people who work in the United States cross the bridge. This bridge is of great importance to the United States and Canada.
The Detroit River flows for 24 nautical miles from Lake St. Clair to Lake Erie as a strait in the Great Lakes system and forms part of the border between Canada and the United States. It has a total length of 51 kilometers and a width of 1.5 miles - 2.5 kilometers. Windsors riverfront is truly beautiful. One of the best things about the city. This is a must-see tourist attraction for tourists visiting Windsor. From Windsor, we can see the General Motors (GM) headquarters. Clean, nicely landscaped and a great view of the Detroit skyline to be enjoyed. Standing by the river, the air is fresh and the blue clean river flows slowly in the river.
